I am fascinated by the complex elegance of ecological systems.The detail, pattern, formation and character of natural structures inform my memory and experience. I am immersed in the intricacy and depth of what is often overlooked but makes up most of what surrounds us.
Viewed in large groups plants tend to look the same. Individual plants differ greatly from one another and can repeat without monotony. There is diversity in the specific nature of each individual. By translating the details I observe, I seek to describe each plant specimen individually as a unique organism; exploring junctures between the singularity of the plant and the atmosphere surrounding it through space, light, detail, and structure. I choose to look at natural systems for their own distinct qualities and for the ways that their diversity reflects our own culture and understanding. My work is formed through direct examination and is made more powerful by the use of Sumi ink, a vegetable derived ink, and paper made from pure cotton fiber.
